Welcome to July’s Bader Academy Briefing!

Bader Academy isn’t even built and yet it’s been through its first Ofsted inspection! The pre-opening inspection allows Ofsted to report back to the Department for Education on our readiness as a Trust to open the new school. Hundreds of pieces of evidence had to be submitted and key people at the Trust and school were interviewed. The outcome of the inspection was extremely positive, with the HMI reporting that she found the school ‘inspirational’ and that it clearly had ‘capacity for success’ and had ‘expertise’ within its workforce. The only areas identified for action were in relation to the actual building itself, where things like fire extinguishers and hot/cold water provision couldn’t be evidenced at that particular time. These will be followed up when completed.

School Site and Building

Amazing progress continues to be made on site with lots of developments being made internally, as well as externally, with classrooms, specialist rooms, the kitchen and the atrium all having internal fittings and fixtures installed. Willmott Dixon have been fantastic in their efforts to get the site completed as soon as possible, in the face of COVID-19 delays. Please visit the website for the latest photos and to do the virtual tour of the building.

Communication and Engagement

The process of engaging parents/carers, pupils and schools has been taking place over the last few weeks. The restrictions of Covid-19 have not made this easy as we had planned home visits and special events to take place but we’re trying to improvise the best we can. The Executive Head has recently recorded a video tour around the building, so watch this space for details on how this can be accessed in the future.

The Bader Academy website has recently been updated to include lots of useful information to help parents. This includes details of the school uniform, the school calendar, a typical week, details of the curriculum and school transport amongst other things.

This briefing has been a great way to keep the Douglas Bader Foundation informed of the progress being made at the school and it’s a regular feature on their website. Wendy McCleave (the step-daughter of Sir Douglas Bader) has been extremely positive about the school and recently said ‘It’s exciting news that you’ll be opening your doors to the first cohort . I think this first bunch are going to be very lucky students indeed.’ What lovely feedback to receive!
