It has been a very busy couple of weeks, but absolutely amazing to see lots of hard work in classrooms and in the community. Young people have been working really hard in all aspects of the curriculum. Pupils have learnt about the Jewish religious festival of Hanukkah, what this means and how it is celebrated within the Jewish community. A focus of the Jewish festival of lights, traditions and games that are played at this time have been explored and understood.
Upper school have absolutely blown us away, each Upper school base has visited Taco Bell following a very successful ‘Hola Mexico!’ topic this term. They have celebrated at Taco Bell after walking the width of Mexico during their daily mile. I had the pleasure of accompanying Class Base 10. All pupils across the week have shown impeccable manners and a wonderful approach to the trip, they were an absolute credit to Bader Academy, what superstars!
Last week we all joined together to Christmas dinner as a Bader family, this was just amazing! There are lots of pictures on the School Story on Class Dojo, if you have not had the chance to take a look please do so. Our young people were wonderful, they helped to set the tables and their manners were astounding when collecting their dinner. For those who didn’t wish to have Christmas dinner, they still joined the festive celebrations and ate their dinner with Christmas crackers and a festive community spirit, we were enormously proud of this! Well done Team Bader!
Online Safety Updates
We have been alerted to a video game, being described by some users as an “introduction to horror.” Videos, versions of the game, and associated material are becoming increasingly popular on YouTube, Roblox, and other platforms used by young children.
Poppy Playtime features frightening images and themes that are paired with child-friendly items. This may be especially upsetting to children who have not yet developed the resilience to deal with disturbing content. Further information can be found here
Applications for use in School
We would like to ask families for your support in helping our pupils understand the difference between home and school and the use of ICT equipment. We have had to look at the number of applications on iPads and electronic devices.
In school, all applications have been removed from iPads which include an open world chat function. This means any application which can allow chat to anyone using the app at the same time and cannot be disabled. This includes applications such as Among Us and Roblox to name a few. We are working with our young people to help and support them in the understanding of this and the necessity for e-safety within school. Could we please ask that this message is also shared at home to reinforce the understanding of this?
All applications on school devices are for educational purposes and we are continuing to support our young people to understand this. We thank you in advance for your support in this matter.
Dates for your diary
Just a quick reminder:
- Friday 17th December – Christmas Parties and school closed for the Christmas break
- Wednesday 5th January – School reopens for the Spring Term
Dates for the Spring Term will be circulated on the first week back after the Christmas break.
As we look to the New Year, we are welcoming more young people into the Bader family. We have a further 9 pupils starting their transition in January 2022, and we are looking forward to this very much.
We are very pleased to inform you that Alice Midgley and Vikki Acornley have been successfully appointed as class teachers. Their posts will begin in January. Alice and Vikki are already well loved and respected members of the Bader family and work tirelessly to support young people across school. We are very excited to see them begin their teaching careers at Bader and I am sure you will join us in wishing them the very best of luck!
It is with a heavy heart that we also say goodbye to Faith Chakanesta at the end of this week. We are so very excited for Faith, she is taking a leap into a different career path which is amazing and so very brave and exciting. I know you will join us, in wishing her the very best of luck in her desire and drive to support more people beyond the Bader community.
Household Support Fund / Free School Meals Doncaster Council is providing support via its Household Support Fund to support households who would otherwise struggle to buy food, pay essential utility bills or meet other essential living costs.
If your child is eligible for free school meals, you will be receiving via email a voucher to the value of £30 for meals over the festive period; this voucher has been organised by the school on behalf of the council.
If you (as a parent/guardian) are receiving any of the following; Council Tax Reduction, Housing Benefit or Universal Credit that includes housing costs in the calculation, and you live in the Doncaster area, then you can apply online for this additional support (please note that the school cannot provide vouchers, and the request can only be done via this link):
There is also a payment of £100 to support families for the winter fuel bill; this available via the link above for both Free School Meal families and those additional families listed above.
School Calendar Academic Year 2022 - 2023
As you know we consulted with families and staff in relation to the October half term for the next academic year, 2022-2023. The consultation closed on Friday 10th December and we have looked at the responses from families and staff. There was overwhelming support for us to repeat the two week break in October 2022 and have a reduced summer holiday in 2023. We will send out a revised calendar after Christmas and update this information on the school website.
We are very much looking forward to another amazing week and sharing with you all of the wonderful achievements of your child.
